Bites and stings cannot only be quite painful but distressing for the animal. Small homeopathic kits suitable for all the family could be used in emergencies such as these. These kits include such remedies as Apis mel if the wound is hot, swollen  and better for applications or Ledum if it is cold, puffy and better for cold applications. If you have no homeopathic remedies to hand, try a herbal application made from crushed plantain leaves.

Chills often strike suddenly after exposure to cold and damp or bacterial and viral infections. They can be quite debilitating and life threatening if not attended to quickly. A well-chosen homeopathic remedy alongside any conventional treatments will quickly reduce a fever, assist the healing process and possibly help reduce the spread of a disease. One remedy we use a lot of is Dulcamara 'ailments from sudden change of temperature or weather. The horse comes from a warm, dry stable  to the field and the temperature drops suddenly to cold and wet.

One of the most useful remedies is Nux vomic where the colic comes on after changing feeds  on turning out, new pasture or just a new batch of haylage. Administer the remedy and keep the animal warm until the vet arrives. Buy a homeopathic remedy kit and you'd have the remedy to hand.

Allergic Reactions

Allergies are the result of the animal’s immune system over reacting to a variety of substances ranging from the feed, environmental issues to drug therapy. When an animal develops an allergy to such things as alfalfa or dust, the substance is called an allergen. When allergens and antibodies come together histamine and other chemicals are released through the body. These chemicals make automatic muscles tighten up and go into spasm, blood vessels to leak fluid and glands to produce excess mucous. Allergic reactions can occur rapidly, even violently. Symptoms produced may include breathing difficulties, skin eruptions, lethargy, digestive disorders, behaviour problems, stiffness, hyperactivity, inflammation and swelling. A simple hair test can quickly identify allergens causing concern to the system.

A simple test using a hair sample can identify foodstuffs that your animal may have become intolerant to. The e-Lybra can produce energy patterns to assist a prescribed de-sensitizing programme.’
